As cold as death.

It was so cold this morning I had trouble getting water out of the hose. The hose was frozen, the bowl of water next to it was frozen, the grass was frozen, and in fact the only thing that was fluid was me. I had decided to go for an early morning walk and catch the beautiful sunrise. A little bit chillier than I had expected with the grass along the path crunching underneath. Wouldn’t get this in Queensland I thought.
Big news of the day is death. Seven mining board members killed in a helicopter crash, the same being for three Australian serviceman killed in Afghanistan. My sympathies to the families of all those killed. It is terrible how many people die before their time every day through motor vehicle accidents, building accidents, acts of nature, confrontations and the myriad of things thrown in our paths everyday.
Those who make it to a healthy, ripe old age are very lucky although quite possibly lonely. I occasionally consider the students I went to primary and secondary school with. How did their lives turn out? Are they single, married, divorced, straight, gay, homeless, rich, famous, loving life, sick of life or died. I know of a few who are dead. One who had a complete nervous breakdown around thirty years ago and never fully recovered. One who became famous for a short time. Those who live long deserve praise. Those that don’t deserve praise for enriching the world for as long as they were able. They will be missed.
